My Artistic Side

I wanted to include this page to give you a chance to see my creative side. I've never branded myself as an artist because I always thought that an artist had to be "on" all the time and constantly in a creative space. I also felt like artist had a distinct look, which I did not possess. Think whimsical, ethereal, you know...The "artsy" type. As I've grown over the years, in age and maturity, I've realized that artistry takes many different forms and can look like anyone in this big, wide world we live in. With that being said, I would like to introduce you to my art. Each piece has a meaning and a story that I would like to share with you.

Louisiana Love

I am a Louisiana girl at heart. I attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where I graduated with a degree in Public Relations, played four years of college softball and soon went on to play professionally for five years. I met some of the most amazing people that I now call my family, ate some of the best chicken and sausage gumbo in the entire world, and reclaimed my sense of self worth here. Louisiana will always be home wherever I go.

Starry night -2018

As you may be able to tell, a lot of my paintings have come from many times that I have attended Painting with a Twist events. If you have never gone to one of these, you absolutely must at least once. It is so much fun and you get to bring your favorite adult beverage to enjoy while you paint. It's even better if you bring a friend. This is another painting that I did with my husband. This was a first date painting. Another memory to treasure for life.

Bob Ross Campfire Remake

This was a super fun piece for me. At one point in my life, I was obsessed with Bob Ross. I had recently watched some old episodes of his painting show and fell in love with his soft voice and amazing talent. One day, I decided to sync one of his videos to my tv and follow one of his painting shows. It took 4 hours for me to complete. It is safe to say that my obsession with Bob was completely gone after that day. Don't get me wrong. I admire his talent. It is amazing what he can do with 30 minutes. I believe there was some "tv magic" involved, but let's be real. The man was pretty great. Never again, though. Never again.

The beginning-OCt 2018

This painting is very special to me. This is a painting of a picture I took the night my now husband asked me to be his girlfriend on October 31, 2016. We had been talking back and forth for about 3 months and finally got the opportunity to see each other in person. We went to the Castle McCullough Halloween party where we dressed up as The Jackson 5 along with his brother, best friend and now sister-in-law. It was an awesome night and I wanted to remember it for the rest of my life so I took this picture. I knew this man would be my husband THAT NIGHT! For our one year anniversary, I wanted to do something special and I painted this picture. The bible verse I chose was very fitting for this moment and still defines our love today.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong doings. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Queen corona 2020

This was a fun project. My husband and I painted King and Queen canvases of ourselves at the very beginning of our COVID quarantine. This was fun because my husband does not paint, but he was really open to trying something new and wanted to see what he could come up with. Even though this took place during a time of great uncertainty and loss of life in the world, we were able to find joy in this activity that we did together.

Look how far you've come 2015

This is the very first painting I did that opened the doors to my creativity. My very first attempt at oil painting and simple me had no idea that it took months for oils to fully dry. You can imagine my disappointment waiting two weeks after completion and it still wasn't dry. This piece has a special place in my heart because it reminded me of myself at the height of my professional softball career. I was in the best shape of my life after going through a terribly abusive relationship. Although this painting wasn't an exact rendition of me, it reminded me of how strong and beautiful I am in my own skin. It reminded me of what I had and would continue to accomplish since regaining my freedom.

Fancy fluer de lis-

Another Louisiana-themed painting. Just like the Louisiana Love painting, this one brings back so many memories of my home away from home. This symbol brings about so much joy and pride. It reminds me of my school, Louisiana culture, and how much fun I had as a college student.

Purple nights

This was another COVID lockdown piece. I found so much comfort and enjoyment in painting at home. We are currently still in a pandemic, but through the deadliest part I was able to find a sense of peace painting anything that came to my mind. Purple nights came to my mind as I was looking to paint a calming scene. This one was definitely a challenge as I had never painted a seascape before. Especially one at night. I am particularly proud of this one because I remember being so critical about how the water was going to turn out and it ended up looking pretty good in the end. Trust the process.

Hydrangea Morning

This is another Painting with A Twist piece, but a very special one. I painted this with my best friend during her bachelorette weekend. This, among other activities, was one of the things that we did to help celebrate her last few weeks as a single woman. This one brings back so many great memories of laughter and joy.

Dope 2019

This is my very first commissioned piece. I found the template for this piece online and decided to see what I could create with it. What started out at a simple outline soon turned into a masterpiece. I also used this canvas as my first experiment with using resin as a topcoat. It came out so beautiful! My cousin actually ended up buying it from me. He was super excited and he still has it hanging in his room.
